RFLPscan Now Updated to v3.5!

(FAIRFAX, VA --JUNE 15,1998 ) Scanalytics Inc. is pleased to announce the release of its newest RFLPscan Plus software version 3.5 for gel analysis professionals. RFLPscan is a Windows-based software module that is used to automate the acquisition and storage of quantitative data from 1-dimensional electrophoretic gel images. Applications of RFLPscan Plus include DNA fingerprinting; protein or DNA product QC and QA; forensic and genetic linkage analysis of RFLP, VNTR, or STR microsatellite markers; paternity testing; and studies in genetics and molecular evolution.

Improved Genetic Linkage and Microsatellite Analysis
RFLPscan Plus v.3.5 contains several functions that are designed specifically for automating microsatellite analysis. These include automatic detection and marking of homozygous alleles; a new Experiment Description dialog box that automatically provides key parameters for accurate measurement of allele number and frequency; and expanded functions in the Database Manager for archiving sample information in the Samples table.

RFLPscan Plus v.3.5 now has the ability to detect and mark heterozygous and homozygous alleles automatically. It can discriminate between allelic bands and stutter bands in di-, tri-, and tetranucleotide STR experiments. Using the improved Experiment Description dialog box, the researcher can normalize gel run distortions and calculate allele number and frequency more easily, without the need to construct internal band MW standards. The RFLPscan Database Manager has been optimized for importation of normalized allele size data and for manipulation of sample data in the database's Samples table. The built-in Mendelian error checker has been improved so that it can understand sample entries that lack certain key data points, such as mother, father, and affected status. If needed, scientists may elect to add desmile lines in order to correct severely distorted gels for optimum MW calibration.
