IPLab Gel v2.2 Now Available!
(FAIRFAX, VA - AUGUST 25, 1998) Scanalytics Inc. has released the newest version of its IPLab Gel software, version 2.2, for scientific image processing professionals. IPLab Gel is ideal for 1D gel applications such as gel documentation and analysis in auto-radiography, chemiluminescence, and fluorescent imaging. It offers a collection of routines designed specifically for densitometry and molecular weight determination, as well as an overlay for annotating gel images. The release of IPLab Gel v2.2 introduces a new scripting mechanism as well as an upgraded acquire module for added frame grabber support. For all its capabilities, IPLab Gel is easy to use, building upon the well-known Macintosh user interface.
New Features In IPLab Gel v2.2.
IPLab Gel v2.2 now supports scripting. Scientists can now design a script within IPLab Gel to define a sequence of commands which they want to use repeatedly, such as a fixed algorithm or protocol. They can also attach a particular script to a certain F-key on their keyboard for easy access and convenience. For example, users can press a single key to grab an image, enhance it and print it.
IPLab Gel v2.2 now also contains an updated acquire module that allows for support of a video printer attached to a Scion VG-5 frame grabber. This new software and hardware combination affords the scientist enhanced convenience and cost effectiveness while preserving the accurate analysis, speed, and gel documentation features IPLab Gel is known for.
More Accurate Analysis
IPLab Gel processes and displays 8-bit as well as 16-bit image data with floating point precision. For density and molecular weight analysis, simply outline regions of interest in an overlay on an image, then apply the Volume Analysis command to get a fast reading of mean and integrated density, volume fraction and molecular weight. Users can create a profile plot of up to six lanes simultaneously for direct peak comparison. There is an automatic peak finder, and the profile analysis results include Rf calculations.
Gel Documentation
IPLab Gel contains several features to make gel documentation a breeze. Image enhancement operations include contrast enhancement, pseudocoloring, filtering, image scaling and rotation, and density calibration to correct for most common kinds of image acquisition errors. An overlay drawing layer lets you add text annotations and graphics to highlight the features of interest in images. To speed the writing of reports and papers, all analysis results, images and plots can be exported to popular spreadsheet and word processing programs.
IPLab Gel v2.2 is a perfect companion to Scanalytics' gel analysis software and systems for Windows 95 and NT 4.0. Scanalytics produces RFLPscan Plus for analysis and databasing of 1D gels, RFLPscan FE forensic edition for autoradiographic analysis, DNAscan for automated DNA sequencing, ONE-Dscan and ZERO-Dscan for analysis and quantitation of slot/dot blots and 1D gels, and GELLAB II+ exploratory databasing software for 2D gels.
"Scanalytics is committed to expanding and improving both our Macintosh and Windows gel analysis product lines," stated Dr. Michael Mort, President of Scanalytics. "The new Scripting function of IPLab Gel v2.2 gives scientists an easy way to radically simplify and condense their user protocols."
